Christ Church is a dual purpose building built during
the second world war; the main hall is a community centre run by the
local authority with a small, self-contained worship centre to one end
which seats about 40. Christ Church is set on the Tolladine estate, a
1920's to '40's built council house community with a strong sense of
identity.
Through SureStart and the Church Urban Fund, we
attracted over £400,000 to refurbish and extend the centre. This work
began in summer 2004. In particular, the passageway and stairs
leading up to the church were brought down to ground level, making
Christ Church accessible.
Christ Church worships on a Sunday morning at 10am: the
service is a relaxed and informal sung Eucharist. There is also a
Eucharist on Mondays at 9.15, together with
occasional services and shared free lunches during the year.
The hall is home to a great number of groups:
Surestart, Crèche, baby cafe, Caterpillars, Tollystyle, Pensioners
bingo, luncheon club, breakfast club ... the list goes on and on!
The best way to experience life at Christ Church is to
come and see us - we'd make you very welcome.
