The benefice of St. Barnabas with
Christ Church is a large urban parish,
stretching from just off the city
centre to the city's northern boundary. The
population is in excess of 20,000
in a wide range of housing from established
council estates to private
developments. There are six schools in the parish,
two high schools, three primary
schools and one special school.
The parish is wrapped around both
sides of a hill, which tends to provide
its own demarcation line between
the two main areas of the parish, as well
as some spectacular views.
St. Barnabas is a large 1885 brick built church,
set in a Victorian suburb which
flourished when the railways did.
